Qualify with us! Coach, Umpire and DofE

COACHING, UMPIRING, DofE and GCSE

Duke of Edinburgh Awards and GCSE in Physical Education

We are able to provide volunteering opportunities for Duke of Edinburgh Awards (at Saturday training or helping coach at matches) and assist with GCSE Physical Education in areas such as performance evaluation, skills development and organising abilities. If your daughter is undertaking or considering either of these (or something similar), please do get in touch and we would be delighted to help.

Coach and Umpiring Qualifications

We can assist 16+ players to undertake both umpiring and coaching qualifications. This is an excellent way of helping them improve their game but also means that they are able to work in the summer holidays at a wide selection of lacrosse camps as they get older. These additional qualifications help build their CVs and provide them with a pathway to fun and exciting work opportunities.

A core part of our lacrosse development ethos is to help our members gain coaching and umpiring qualifications. Not only are they great CV building opportunities, but we pay market leading rates to those who go on to work for the club. Players can start working on their qualifications from Year 10 upwards, much of which can now be done online.

Level 1 Umpiring

The ELA have recently changed the way umpires become qualified, which makes it easier for young people to get on the umpiring ladder. To qualify as a Level 1 umpire ( or official) the course is all online via the ELA website The course takes approximately two to three hours to complete and, as with coaching, can be completed in several sittings. We have agreed with the ELA that girls from Year 10 upwards may register for the course and qualify on completion. You may find it helpful to have a hard copy of the Official Rule Book to hand that you can order from England Lacrosse. There is an annual update test.

Officials are best to take the England Lacrosse Safeguarding course available from England Lacrosse

Fundamentals of Lacrosse ('Level 1 Coaching')

This course is undertaken in two parts. The first is an online course in coaching theory, which comes in a home study pack available through the England Lacrosse Association website. Applicants must be members of the England Lacrosse Association, and can gain a place on a forthcoming course by logging into https://www.englandlacrosse.co.uk/fundamentals-course-dates It takes approximately four to five hours to complete and can be done over a period of time by logging in/out of the online module once registered. This is followed by an assessment day, during which three pre-prepared coaching lesson plans will be assessed/discussed.

We work with England Lacrosse to the practical aspect of the course at the Club. We have agreed with the ELA that girls from Year 10 upwards may attend the assessment day and receive their certificate upon reaching 16. We also require that our young coaches take the England Lacrosse Safeguarding qualification( see above).

  • If you are already Level 1 qualified and would like to progress to Level 2, or would like further information/advice, please contact our Courses Coordinator Jonathan Ress.
  • For Under 16 registration, please contact Courses Coordinator Jonathan Ress
